n exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Anatomy Section at SGUL as a Lead Anatomy Demonstrator. The appointee will join a vibrant and innovative team of academics, clinicians and support staff to deliver at under- and post-graduate level on courses including Medicine, Biomedical Science, Physicians Associate Studies and a wide range of healthcare related programmes. Practical activities take place in the Dissection Room (DR) with a focus on cadaveric resources, prepared using formalin and soft fix approaches, supported by potted pathological specimens, anatomical models and audio-visual equipment.
Applicants must hold a first degree in the relevant field and experience of anatomy demonstrating in a higher education setting. Experience of practical anatomy assessment, small group teaching and supervising undergraduate research projects is desirable.

  • Carry out DNA forensic testing of human biological samples. This will include but is not limited to:
    • DNA Extraction (Qiagen kits and protocols)
    • Microcon wash and concentration
    • DNA Quantitation (Plexor HY)
    • PCR (including DNA17, YSTR, FUSION)
    • Capillary Electrophoresis (operation of AB 3500xl)
    • Analysis of DNA profiles using GeneMapper IDX software
    • Superuser for LIMs and DNA Module

A position has become available to join our team as a Forensic Exhibit Handler/Administrator. This is a multi-functional and physical role where you will be liaising with our wide range of customers; and be involved in receiving and returning a broad range of forensic samples including those from serious crime scenes and mass disasters.
This role is busy and varied and would suit an individual who is capable of working well under pressure and to tight deadlines with a flexible and team-orientated approach.  Experience of spreadsheet and database packages e.g. Word, Excel and Access is essential as well as computer and keyboard skills. The ability to multi-task in order to meet the changing priorities that occur throughout the day.
In light of the serious consequences of any error, you will also be required to have meticulous attention to detail and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal forms and a pro-active approach to process improvement and problem-solving.
